What skills do you need to become an effective health promoter? How can you
improve your knowledge of sexually transmitted infections and get closer to a
well-paid job as an advisor or outreach worker?
Do you want to make a positive change to the lives of many Africans who live in
London?
Terrence Higgins Trust is launching a Health Promotion Skills course targeting
individuals, staff and volunteers working with African communities in London.
Trainees will gain an OCN-accredited certificate in African Communities Health
Promotion.
The course offers supported participatory learning, and requires a minimum
study time of 60 hours. Course topics include the following:
•HIV prevention needs of African communities in the UK
•Role of HIV and sexual health services in the UK
•Stigma and discrimination
•HIV testing and treatment
•Theoretical models of HIV prevention
•HIV prevention interventions
•Research, need analysis and data analysis in HIV prevention
•Planning evidence-based HIV prevention programmes
•Use of frameworks in monitoring and evaluating HIV prevention work with
African communities
By the end of this modular course you will gain a good understanding of health
promotion practices relevant to African communities. Through action learning
methods, participants will also obtain professional mentoring, and they will be
able to:
• Acquire and apply their knowledge and understanding to sexual health
promotion
• Develop and apply personal and interpersonal skills to health promotion
practices
• Engage with current research and familiarise themselves with recent
academic discuss
• Improve their professional skills and competence
• Discuss and exchange ideas with other participants and professionals in
the sector
• Meet the minimum professional qualification that employers in the sector
look for.

Director of Primary and Secondary Education
Job Purpose: The Director of Primary and Secondary Education is the Technical Adviser to the Ministry of Education and its departments and agencies on the strategic development, monitoring and evaluation of primary and secondary education. S/he ensures high quality strategic direction for all the sub sector education policies, strategies, developments and programmes within the DPSE on behalf of the Ministers of Education to ensure successful implementation of the ESSP and EDPRS. The sub sectors within the Department responsibility are pre primary, primary, secondary, literacy, technical education, girls’ education, school health and sports. S/he provides sound leadership and management of the DPSE.
Planning, Research and M&E Officer
Job Purpose: The Research and Planning Officer is responsible for representing the ESSP within the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the EDPRS and ensuring that monitoring and evaluation is an integral management tool for all education manager.
Higher Education Professional Officer
Job Purpose: The Higher Education Professional Officer is responsible for all matters concerned with the policy developments, monitoring and evaluation of the Higher Education Policy and Strategic Plan in order to contribute to the successful implementation of the ESSP.

The Rwandese Community Association (RCA) in the UK cordially invites you to a summer get together and celebration of Rwanda’s National Day on Saturday July 4th, 2009.
For the last five years, this annual event has been bringing our community and our friends together to share, celebrate our culture and our heritage. It’ is one day in a year when our community is addressed by their community leaders and their Ambassador to give them updates on government policies, achievements and the aspirations of the Rwandan people. This event has become popular over time pulling an audience of300-400 people and our community looks forward to it every year.
The function will take place at the London Irish Centre, 50-52 Camden Square, London NW1 9XB from 4.00pm.
This is our time to meet, interact, have fun and share as a community, but we also have the honour of hosting Rwanda’s Ambassador to the UK H.E Claver Gatete, who will update our community on current developments in our country.
RCA would also like to use this event to appeal to members of our community and our friends to contribute towards the One Dollar Campaign in support of Genocide Orphans in Rwanda (www.1dollarcampaign.org ).
Entrance is free for all but any contribution to this campaign will be appreciated.
Nearest station: Camden Town Station (Underground, Northern Line) and Camden Road Station (Overland).
Bus routes: 29 (to wood green), 253 (towards Hackney) and 274 (to Angel Islington). Parking is free in this area on Saturday, apart from double yellow lines and disabled parking.
